Dartmouth is high up on the list of places I want to visit again once I am done with my Morgan restore and the Corona madness is under control. Last time is 10 years ago - I hope the tug-boat ferry still operates and look forward to making a stop at the castle team-room. ![[Linked Image]](https://fixingc6622.files.wordpress.com/2021/02/wp_000354.jpg)

Missed the Castle tea-room. Would take another trip on the paddle steamer.

I would advise to use the higher ferry. The lower on is more scenic but getting off at Dartmouth you will almost certainly scrape the under side. The higher ferry doesn't have that issue. Here is my late Mum on the lower ferry enjoying the ride in Sept 2010 with the zimmer on the back rack. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2020/03/28/DSC00295.jpg)

Morgan's best advised to take the new Higher Ferry, the Lower Ferry with musical tug boats are real cross member crashers or sump grabbers if you have a Roadster. Both fine for the tin tops.
It's as well to bear in mind that the Higher ferry is susceptible to strong cross winds and is unable to run in those conditions combined with low water, the Lower Ferry just keeps on undeterred, the irony being the Lower is council run..

I have made it off the lower without scratching my 4/4 , the +4 bottomed out on the Dartmouth side with the steep ramp. The S! Roadster took the higher ferry to be safe. The Brooklands has yet to visit

You were lucky, both the 4/4 Sport and Plus 8 clouted the gearbox crossmember taking it very slowly - once, so I avoid the Lower Ferry now.
I wouldn't want anyone visiting the area fully laden hitting something expensive.

Richard, yes I think I was alone in the 4/4 , 2 up in the +4. That plus the state of the tide & the angle of the ramp to that steep slipway could be the difference. Best avoided though.

I’ve used the upper ferry and no grounding for the Plus 8. Any grounding I do get is either the cross member or the tailpipes. My old 4/4 had a D-shaped tailpipe end but the Plus8 just has a couple of scrapes on the bottom edge.

The Higher Ferry is fine with the Plus 8 but at low water you will clip your tailpipes.
