Recently bought my first Morgan: a 1990 +8. Dark Blue with grey interior. Reg. G544KOE and it seems to have an interesting history. It is currently fitted with quad Weber 40 IDF's (a bad thing) and at some time has had a BTR rear axle fitted (a good thing). I'm not sure why anyone would fit the Webers to what seems to be an otherwise stock 3.9, but each to their own. They will be removed shortly as 19 mpg is not good for touring and likely replaced with an Edelbrock carb, although all the injection wiring and ECU are still fitted so going back to EFI is another possibility. It also has some nice stainless headers and not so nice side exit exhausts. Does anyone out there know anything else about the car? I'd guess it was maybe hillclimbed or sprinted at some time?
I'm looking forward to heading South and touring in the sun. One day maybe....

Welcome from Wales.
Does the car come with a folder showing history of services, work done etc? Many owners keep good records of everything.
19mpg is a bit low, suggesting likely upgrades for competitions. The manifold and webers are clues. I have a 2002 Gems 4litre Plus8 and get 30mpg unless going somewhere faster! I’d have thought mid to upper 20’s for a carb version to be more normal.
One Plus8 owner I have met a few times has a John Eales prepared V8 with slightly bigger bores, new cam, carbs etc ( a well known race engine tuner). He gets 15mpg!

A warm welcome to TM. Looking forward to learning more about your car - sounds like it may have a fascinating history. There are a few +8 experts on here who will be along in a moment.

Welcome to TM Charlie
From just north of Stamford...(thus I guess not too far from you if it’s the same Oundle I’m thinking of)

Thanks for the welcome. It is Oundle just West of Peterborough, so Stamford is pretty local. I'm expecting to get close to 30 mpg on a run from it and the Edelbrock gets good feedback on both economy and performance so I'll start there. Already secured an Offenhauser manifold via EBay. Then the side exit pipes will have to go. Too hooligan for me these days! Having said that, I have my name down for the MSCC trackday at Snetterton in May.

Welcome Charlie, I have the 3.9 model and 30 on a long run, 22 locally but I am a bit keen on the sound track so I'm sure a better mpg could be achievable if that was necessary.
I wouldn't have side pipes either, on a run you'd get sick to death of them, my dual Librands Sport system is enough on a long run of 200 +.

Haven't played around with carbs as both my cars have been EFI, others on here will have though and will show up soon.

Enjoy the car there is nothing quite like a V8 rumble.
