An English friend who lives in the USA is thinking of buying this Plus 8. It looks pretty sound to me. One question: that is obviously a traditional-type hood but it has "EZ Up top bars". I presume that means it has the folding system from the Easy-Up hood (in the English meaning of the term). I should think that works quite well. Can anyone clarify this?

I think they refer to the levers fitted to the hood stays. In the 4th photo you can just seem them. They help tension the hood & make fixing the 9 stud hood easier as you tension it last.

Allon White also used to make a conversion kit to an easy up design with a modified header rail & the old header rail fitted to the hood. That needs catches on the screen pillars but I don't see any.

As John says - hood tensioning levers. There should be a good photo of them on John Taylor's web site - he's supplied lots of them over the years.

The levers are a must have for stud roof cars. I fitted them onto my first Mog as the hood was very tight. A BIG improvement. They were the John Taylor version.
I remember Simmonds doing conversion kits for stud to easy-up but I think they stopped and concentrated on steering wheels.

The simplest system was made by Simmonds.

My 2005 PLUS 4, initialy with the Morgan Easy-up hood has this modification made. Simple, reliable and quick.

I have a similar +8 being a 1994 and the lifters (mine are the John Taylor lifters) are really good they make putting up the hood so much easier. I attach the hood to the rear, sides and front studs, lift it up over my head as I get in the front seat then pull the bars into position over my head. The bars hold the droopy top in position which then allows me to reach both lift handles and easily move them into place applying tension to the roof and setting in position. No more huffing and puffing pulling the roof to get it over the studs, etc. and so much quicker.

The problem with the Simmonds hood is that the over centre rear catches limit rear storage options, and, now I am an older they are a real pain to twist around to get too them.

(But even as a bit of geek I think that the electric release option that Simmonds Jnr is mooting is a step too far for a trad Mog.
