Ah. I was referring to the TfL website John, which seems a bit of a bugger's muddle for a number of vehicles...

Tfl websites aren't good but I must admit the staff are excellent. When I had to get to the Docklands airport but the DLR was on strike they ran a superb well organised bus service.

The TFL site shows two variants to charging.
The original Congestion charge plus emissions related charges that will apply cumulatively depending on where the vehicle sits in their emissions bands.
I seem to remember the Congestion charge was to reduce numbers of vehicles by a money disincentive ( pay to enter) . The emissions charges are then on top of that.
Weren’t EV’s given exemption from both to encourage EV use? So, when EV takes over as the dominant vehicle will the congestion element be applied to them? Reduce vehicles, encourage public transport, cycling, electric scooters....
I remember Cardiff having trolleybuses with power from overhead cables. Basically an electric double decker bus. No rails in the road.

I remember Belfast trolley buses.
Cheltenham used to have a tram network (long before I moved here). Allegedly some of the rails are still under the roads.

Probably works better than the TfL LEZ/ULEZ system!  But that is hardly a great achievement.

When I was a child (a long time ago) we had trolley bus route from the village of Pwll to Llanelli.but ours were red and had wooden seats.

I have a book about our local trolley buses. I rode on them as a child, and they replaced the trams. When they were sold, some were converted from single to double dockers and used elsewhere. There is a trolley bus museum on the outskirts of Doncaster. In Sheffield, the rails were buried under fresh tarmac In fact on some Sheffield streets, the wooden cobbles are still visible when they dig holes and usually perfectly preserved. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mexborough_and_Swinton_Traction_Company
