Doesn't the O2 sensor sense exhaust gas mixture and then make adjustments via the ECU? If that is the case, it doesn't matter how fast the exhaust gas is passing the sensor but rather what is in the exhaust. I have had this discussion with my former Harley riding friends. I gutted the cats and they said it would cause check engine issues and I reasoned that the sensor would have to be behind the cat to detect any exhaust gas change. I know when I removed mine from the Harley, it freed the engine up and really cooled the exhaust heat by my passengers feet where the cat was located.

The ECU makes changes +/- 10%

Yeah these v twins are set pretty lean on motorcycles to meet EPA standards. When you richen them up they run cooler. I will get an ECU upgrade next winter. I want to run it a full season to see how it does stock with the exhaust opened up.

I found that after I did remove all baffles and cats in the original system and also changing to the S&S Stealth air filter the ECU could NOT self adjust enough. Probably as Lightspeed says it only has +/-10% range.
The solution was a open ECU and a customized tune by local S&S magician...
Now the car is totally transformed and drives like a dream. My only problem is the knowledge that I should have done this the day I bought it.....

Sorry if I was unclear.......R1NGA Is right. The only option is to buy a new ECU which allows all custom modifications you want now and in the future.....
With my new custom mapping the engine is a much happier beast. If I just can find a good test rig for the threhwheel layout I would like test it and confirm the current HP. The feeling is clearly that it is more and the engine runs cooler!

There in lies the issue finding a rolling road for the M3W. My tuner used a standard 4 wheel car one with careful strapping, as if it were on a transporter. Not sure this was required as it didnt jump around much.
