It is all too easy to forget what you have on your own doorstep, I'm quite looking forward to holidays in our own country for the foreseeable, you have everything here, the unpredictable weather being the only slight drawback.

As well as touring Scotland two places on my list are the Eden project and Beamish when circumstances allow.

The northern lights I've seen on a few occasions so don't feel the need to go further North to see them again.

Is that a carrot I see being dangled Keith? smile
Apart from Aberdeen for an interview many years ago, I don't know much of that area (been to Elgin Motor Museum a couple of years ago) as we were normally on the west side. thinking idea

Just stepped out of the workshop door and took a random pic over the garden .... lovely here today (tho the garden is looking a bit scabby coming out of winter!!)

Spaceweather.

THE SOLAR WIND IS HERE: For the 3rd day in a row, a fast-moving stream of solar wind is buffeting Earth's magnetic field. Over the weekend bright pink auroras appeared around the Arctic Circle. Additional displays are possible tonight as the solar wind continues to blow faster than 500 km/s.

I guess Shetland might see something, but I doubt there willll be any visibility further south:
Spaceweather.

THE CME HAS ARRIVED: As expected, a coronal mass ejection (CME) hit Earth's magnetic field during the early hours of Feb. 24th (~0430 UT). It was a weak impact. The CME was not heading directly for Earth, and it delivered only a glancing blow. Minor geomagnetic storms and Arctic auroras are still possible, however, as Earth moves through the CME's magnetized wake !!

There was a report and pictures on my news feed showing the aurora above Lossiemouth on the Moray coast. I think it said Saturday night.

I checked last night at various times but no sign of anything here.

I check last thing most nights as a routine as I pass the north facing window ... nothing spotted for a few weeks here .... it's easier for the coast dwellers as many of them have nice big north-facing picture windows for the sea view .... I'll have to cultivate some seaside folk for my 'ring-round' group. 🙂

SOLAR WIND, INCOMING: A high-speed stream of solar wind is approaching Earth. ETA: March 1-2. The gaseous material is flowing 500+ km/s from a Southern hole in the sun's atmosphere. Geomagnetic unrest and Arctic auroras are likely when the solar wind arrives.
