Goodyear has started the process to acquire Cooper Tyre and I.I.R.C. Avon Tyres are owned by Cooper. Since Goodyear pays my pension I will no longer have to feel guilty about the Avon tyres on my Roadster!

Avon are indeed part of Cooper ..... hope this doesn't effect the production of the very niche Avon supersoft hillclimb slicks ..... having just got some competition into the market in the form of the Pirellis, the last thing we need is a giant company rationalising away what, to them, is a tiny specialist offshoot.

Perhaps not, Keith. Goodyear have been quietly increasing their involvment in European motorsport again with the LMP2 class and now as supplier to the BTCC.

That sounds hopeful .... all we need now is a way of wearing our slicks out to keep their sales up!! 🙂

Thanks for sharing.

The tyres I need for my AC Cobra are Avon CR6ZZ intermediates (suitable for road use) as they are the only tyres which fit on the original 15 inch rims and have an appropriate speed rating. They cost about £1600 a set and only last 5000 miles if you are careful, but the alternative is to fit 16 or 17 inch wheels which is what all the Cobra kit car manufacturers use.

I better order a set before some Goodyear cost saving enthusiast decides that making tyres for 15 inch rims isn't good practice any more.

Goodyear's other European sub brands are Dunlop ( produced in France, Germany), Fulda (Germany), Sava (Slovenia) and Debica (Poland) so Avon will be in good company, although with no GY manufacturing sites in the UK, I am not sure where Melksham will fit in.
