I had a chat with one of the NHS Group running the centre in Salisbury. They are working through the 60s and expect to be finished by mid March when toe 50 to 60 group will be called. The rate is governed by availability of vaccine, he said that with unlimited vaccine there is injecting capacity to get everyone over 18 done by the end of April.

It is odd. In Felixstowe we got a text from the GP & the NHS site won't work for booking the second jab. John I looks like the .NHS site is set up so you HAVE to book both visits, it's taken me a few attempts as by the time you accept the second date & time someone else has nicked the first one you selected, so it reads 'puter says no, and you have to start all over again...first jab 17th for me Either way I am not complaining. There is a growing sense of relief as I head to 3 weeks post the first jab which is Sat.

I think what's happening is that local surgeries and health centres are getting vaccine deliveries based on their patient stats, and the big centres are getting bulk deliveries and are allocating them as they are booked. So a local surgery like mine that has loads of old codgers may not be able to offer vaccinations close to home for us youngsters, but we can get them by travelling to a big centre like Malvern. Could well be. Belt and Braces system perhaps? An hour after booking the first and second jabs via the web link I received an SMS from my surgery to book at the local vacc centre at the fire station. So now my first jab is early this afternoon and I will cancel the one at Malvern. I'll leave the second appointment in place until I know I can book a second local one via my surgery.

Just been to my GP’s this morning for my Hormone Therapy injection. Because we have had our first COVID jab (6 weeks ago) I asked what the news and schedule for our second jams was. I was advised it’s very different all over the U.K. and some practices in our area (Solihull, West Midlands) are well into 2nd jabs but my practice won’t even start 2nd jabs until the week after next. So different for us all I understand.

Yes MIL went first & she is now 5 weeks after jab 1. We will hit 3 weeks on Sat. I presume the promised increased in injections in March is to start the second jabs.

Hi John
I think it’s so important to get at least one jab in as many arms as possible and I have no problem waiting for the second especially as the news is so good on the effectiveness of just one jab. My neighbour (seriously in the ‘know’ with what’s really going on) tells me to chill it’s all going well and nothing to worry about.

Yesterday the Wales First Minister explained how vaccine allocation was done. The Barnet formula was the basis. This meant that Wales received a volume that matched the demography of the population resulting in a bigger allocation to match the relative higher proportion of groups 1-4. He went on to say that allocation would fall slightly as the proportion changed. Not a problem though. It is just a function of targeting the vulnerable groups. Second jabs will go ahead as expected which is built into the allocation/supply. The UK vaccine development/roll out is a major success. Far better than the other issues that have seemed to be less than well run. Another good thing is the supply to poorer countries. It would be immoral to not help them. It is a global pandemic and needs this global solution to get on top of the virus.
