Now the roof is almost 14 years old. It is made of some kind of fabric and it shrinks. I can barely stretch it across the back gutter. Does anyone know a solution on how to expand the fabric again?

Maybe gentle heat from a hair drier

It might be worth (Renovo) reproofing the roof if you haven't tried that, it might provide a bit of extra flexibility.

When I reprooofed the fabric (canvas?) hood with Renovo on my first Morgan it appeared to shrink slightly Richard!

Most fabrics strech when wet. What about soaking the whole thing, putting it back on the top and then let it dry i the streched position. Of course not dripping wet, and with some plastic protecting the interior. I remember when scuba diving, it was important to wet the diving jacket before you strapped the air tank onto it. If not the web strap would stretch and the tank could loosen once you were in the water.

That's interesting Graham, when I treated my Neverflex on the 4/4 Sport it certainly relaxed the material and it was easier to put up.

Ironically warm weather eases the situation in a big way on the Neverflex.

I guess this will have been discussed on the various Lotus forums Heinz.

When buying the S2 I had a similar issue. The car had been garaged with the hood down for a long time and it felt very tight. I was advised to soak it and then put it up and leave it up.

I might have let it dry too much before refitting - was still slightly damp though...

In this cooler weather, you need to apply lots of warm water to the hood.
Then stretch it onto the car, while it is still wet.
Then leave it on the car for a few days.

When the Morgan factory fitted a new hood for me, a few years ago, they suggested always putting the hood up, when the car is in the garage.
It’s a bit of a nuisance to erect the hood, each time I put the car away, but it seems to work.

Robbie is right. Soak it, install and let it dry. Thats what I have to do with the sprayhood on my boat.
