This afternoon I installed the S&S stealth air cleaner and chrome muscle cover. I was able to get the
stealth air cleaner from a Morgan dealer (S&S was back ordered and no longer sell the Muscle covers)
I found 2 ebay bike suppliers who both had a dozen in stock. Part of installing the air cleaner, you have to
screw in a filler plug. Not sure whats it for but I could only get it screwed in about 1/2 way. Was afraid I would
break the mounting plate if I tried any harder to screw it in. That is what caused me to break a finger off the carburetor.
When I was mounting the air filter back plate to the carburetor I heard something snap and knew I just broke something.
I took the back plate off and a finger on the carburetor had broken off due to that filler plug not being screwed in all the way.
I dont see the function of the peace that broke off. I put the back plate back on and finished installing the new air filter.
I took it for a test drive and runs normal. Any one know what that little finger is for? Hope I dont need to replace the carburetor.
any ideas?

I don't believe the piece that broke off will have any impact on the engine. The throttle bodies (not carburetor blush) on these machines are used in many different applications by S&S and that little 'finger' may have a use with some of the air cleaner installations on bikes.

I could not see any function of the piece that broke off but just wanted to be sure. Now the next step is to drill out the first baffle.
Sure hope this goes easier than the simple air filter.
thanks

My mentor's recommendation (tongue-in cheek) for proper torque on a bolt: "Until it snaps, and back off a quarter-turn".
