Has anyone installed a fire extinguisher in the passenger footwell? Is this overkill? if someone has stories about needing one, I am all ears...

My theory is because of the close proximity to everything in a Morgan and the tightness of the cockpit if a fire breaks out my priority is to get the hell out and not be faffing around to get a fire extinguisher!!!! Having said that I do have an extinguisher in my +8 for road rallies which I have never used on the Mog but did use on an SUV that had an engine fire on the side of the road. It really didn't do much good but made me feel better that I had at least tried.

I have a 2kg extinguisher that I had to fit for the Caramulo hill climb. It mounts to two Rivnuts in the floorpan just ahead of the passenger seat cushion. Nuisance of a thing as it tends to rattle and I'm always a bit nervous of catching the safety pin then setting it off by accident. From the fire fighting courses I've had to do I'm with Britmog, any real fire needs running away from.

Mine is wrapped in a tea towel under the passenger seat. Replace it every 8 years or so, never had to use it in 30+ years.

Love to see how you fit an extinguisher under the passenger-seat. The poor passenger teetering on the cylinder.

I am for the bailout method, burned alive is not a pretty thing. Seen it....

Look at these, lightweight and very long life compared to a standard fire extinguisher.

I have fitted one myself. It runs across the seat runners. Ive sat mine on an aluminium plate and stripped and polished the extinguisher. Two nylon straps keep it in place. Maybe not needed but looks pretty cool IMO :-)

I have also fitted one across the seat runner mounting bolts by redrilling the provided mounting bracket, but mine is on the driver's side.
There are 3 advantages to this position, it can be grabbed as you exit the vehicle, it creates a useful barrier where you can put things behind it without any danger of them sliding under your feet and thirdly because it doesn't encroach on SWMBO's space. There is one downside that it gets in the way of your knuckles when moving the seat forward but this was solved by putting a strap on the seat adjuster bar. This means that when SWMBO is driving she can still get the seat forward enough.
I have always had an extinguisher In the car, partially for competition reasons in the past, but in 50 years I have never used one in anger and only drawn it out once.

Mine sounds similar to Bonesie’s. It came with the car. Fitted on a mount across the seat runners on the passenger side. Two straps holding the extinguisher on the mount. It is a tight fit though. It now sits on the floor behind the seat until I get round to refitting. I also use straps for the seat adjuster bar. Both sides. I lowered the driver’s seat so the strap stops knuckle thumps against the cross member cover.
