In my search I have seen several 4/4 Sport models. I had not considered them before due to no spare wheel or luggage rack. I have since found that this can be retrofitted ... easily????
Also are there any disadvantages with the one piece rear panel if you need access for repairs?
Finally, Traditional hood or Easyup?

The solid rear panel on the Sports restricts access to the tank and accessories.

A rack and spare can be fitted but the spare goes on the rack, which on a touring holiday means one or the other.

I'm an easy up hood fan for two reasons. Hood down it makes a bit more storage space behind the seats. Whereas when the trad hood is down you have to store it somewhere. If it happens to be wet, you'll need a bin liner.

The Sigma engine first came with the 4/4 Sport, I think it was 2008. The first cars had a traditional roof. Whether there was an easy up later, I do not know. I had a Plus4 Supersport with a traditional weather and it was easy to fit. The protection against water was as good as an easy up...and it looks nicer. The trad. weather does not need much space if you think to store a softbag its no problem.
I had a 2010 Roadster Sport and I had no problems with faults easier to fix with hole for spare wheel. But, if you need to fix something in that area, on the tank fuel lines the hole for the spare could be beneficial.
To cut a hole afterwards I imagine very difficult. I mean, the cars with the hole for the spare wheel have more wood braces. But this must confirm someone else who has more expertise.

For me, the 4/4 Sport were love at first sight because of their simple beauty.
They still have a throttle cable and are Euro4, which need not be a disadvantage.

You can permanently attach the luggage rack if the rear seems too naked without a spare wheel. I wouldn't rule out the Sport models when it comes to a 4/4.

A few years ago I had replacement roll over valve fitted to my 4/4 Sport Sigma (with no spare wheel for access) this was done at Williams Automobiles, and from memory they only had to remove the plywood shelf behind the seats, unscrew the side screen storage tray, and pull it out for full access to the fuel lines etc. I don’t think it’s a big deal, but I stand to be corrected ?

I've had 2 4/4s with traditional vinyl hoods and I found all the fasteners an absolute pain especially if it was wet or cold, my wife never had the strength in her fingers to undo the fasteners, The vinyl hoods can be very difficult to fit when cold or in winter. ,

I 've had a 70th Anniversary with trad front fasteners and easy up rear, a half way house, the flexibility of being able to lift the rear hood section for shopping etc was very useful feature. . With the added benefit you have the easy access to the rear of the seats making life much easier than trying to negotiate bags into the back with seat headrests etc forming a very effective barrier to the area back of the seats,(if the hood is up).......Now I have a full easy up hood and although it may not be as aesthetically pleasing as the traditional hood I prefer it for its relative ease, so much so my wife can do the hood herself .

I have a 4/4 sport and have done a few tours. The 4/4 sport rack sits lower on the rear panel and then so does the luggage. I think this helps with rear vision and certainly looks better as it’s not perched up in the air. I have a 9 stud hood and this slots into the interior side screen tray, (we keep the side screens on on long journeys). You can get the hood on in about the same time as an easy up, I use the Williams method. The passenger footwell is deep enough to keep a soft case with a couple of bottles of puncture squirt, and I’ve lately added a compressor, but I have no idea if these would work. I have had to do without a spare all this time, I suppose that’s a matter of choice. But then I don’t carry many other spares as well. Anyone who’s had a puncture will probably tell you it’s a real pain, no doubt about that.
A re-mapped sigma is great fun, and comes into its own on long journeys as it’s so frugal.

So a galvanised-chassis 4/4 sport seems a good bet to me. They’re best in black.

I have seen a few 4/4 Sports advertised. I was unsure about the hood but I do like the Traditional look and from the comments it doesn't seem to be too much of a compromise.

I would really like a galvanised chassis. Didn't realise the MX5 box came in later. would an earlier car, say 2009 with a MT-75 box be okay? I am already experienced with the MX5 box and the Ford Type 9 but not the MT-75.
