After the winter lay-up, I got on the road yesterday for a lovely sunny trip my my local farm shop. Heaven! However, the clutch decided it wasn't liking the trip and I found myself thinking perhaps I didn't have one as I changed gear.. I checked the fluid level which is fine. Is it likely it will start to behave itself with use.. or is it something more sinister? Spring is coming yea! Oliver S.

Give it a few miles to detox, and see what develops. You might also bleed it through.

My S1 Roadster developed clutch creep which turned out to be fluid passing between the seals in the master cyl (no external leak) so you may have the start of that
To test, engine running, hold the clutch pedal depressed with it in gear, after a few minutes the car will start to creep forward & is difficult to pull back the gear lever into neutral, pump the clutch & all seams okay, but hold the pedal down & it will happen again
Hope this helps

Hope this helps Good lord...I had that on a Triumph Herald when I was 17. If I was waiting at a junction it would decide to pull out on it's own. Gave one of my Aunts a severe fright! Nick

2005 Roadster Mk1. Spring is coming indeed - might be a broken spring in the friction plate ( do you guys have those?). bits sometimes come loose and prevent the pressure plate from pulling back properly. Phil

Thanks Jon M that's a good test.. I hope it's not what Phil says but less likely to happen as it sits around I hope.. One more question - there is a small white plastic bottle against the bulkhead next to the one with the sensor wires on it - what is that for? Is one the clutch (without the sensor) and the other the brakes (with the sensor?). Sorry to betray my lack of mechanical knowledge! Oliver S.

The small white plastic bottle on the bulkhead (NO wiring & just a black rubber tube dropping vertically) is the Clutch fluid reservoir

Plus 4 (2019): Suddenly clutch pedal had no resistance. I was lucky that it happened at home. Fluid ok. No leakage.
Clutch Master Cylinder hat to be replaced after 11'000 km. Under Warranty. Now its all fine. Good luck from Switzerland.

Oliver, if it's got the fault I describe you won't get any fluid leak or drop in level, you could however bleed the hydraulics & flush some new fluid through as it may never have been done and at that age what's in the slave cylinder will be knackered
