Swept away by a raging torrent and slammed into a bridge, perhaps.
At least it didn't catch fire.

He does seem a tad unlucky.

Why would it be finished if flooded? Would the electronics never recover?
Or did he crash into a flood?

Modern cars are easily written off by flood water.

Back a few years ago an acquaintance living by the Thames had 2 cars in a semi basement garage, invaded by the Thames, that he couldn't get out in time.
One, a 2 year old Mercedes, I think a SLK, was written off because water got into all the electronic modules inside the car.

The other, a S2 E Type was also flooded. It needed 2 new silencers, which were glass packed and saturated, plus new carpets. It was not written off.

The Insurers required the Merc crushed.
I suspect Hammonds car was crushed by the insurers as a total loss.

Making it a total loss is a nonsense. It makes no economic sense, neither is it a green solution. Obviously it would take hours of work, but that stripped out chassis would allow an accident damaged Plus Six to be recovered. All the metal parts on Hammonds car, plus the wheels would be salvageable. If the water wasn't deep the hood would be salvageable. The whole thing is ridiculous.

Agree, a LOT of the harness and electrical bits get very wet when just driving in the rain, on a motorway at 70 the water pressure pushing into all the nooks and cranies is quite high

I've heard if the water is mucky the insurers are frightened of things like Weils disease
