Now don't tell everybody, but I have access to an early tranche of Corporate Bonds with a rather attractive yield. They invest in a selection of upmarket golf resorts and even a casino.

I can't yet reveal the name of this enterprise yet, but luckily the President of the company has a bit more time on his hands recently and might even invite you to a round of golf at one of his Scottish promo events (depending of course on the size of your portfolio).

He was recently quoted as saying 'This is a tremendous investment opportunity and will help to make my resorts great again and if anyone hears different it is fake news'

(Proud Boy Bonds are regulated by the Bank of Panama - bribes may go up or down and are not guaranteed)

This whole crypto currency thing intrigues me but I have no experience in it. Seeing how well Bitcoin has done has got me pondering how the heck its works?

I said to Treacle, ( I call her treacle cos she's sweet but doesn't move very fast . Lol ) Could I just make a crypto currency ? If I had say ten mates and I gave them each a code with a value to that code those ten mates could be free to trade among themselves, right ? But wouldnt that just be passing around free stuff ? Were does Crypto get its 'value' or worth. ?

It has the value that people put on it. But in that respect its no different to any other currency. A £20 note is just a piece of paper isnt it. But people will accept it in exchange for goods which is in fact a currencies function - a medium of exchange. But just as the Weimar republic showed, that value isnt fixed and can become worthless.

A criptocurrency is just the same but without a physical presence and without any government behind it. So its wide open to scams and there have been many reports of that happening particularly to older people who dont know what they are dealing with. On the other hand it is useful to hide money from greedy governments, ex wives, proceeds of crime etc

Gold and silver seems a good option ? Maybe a few pieces of 8 would yield some return over few years.

Anyone dabble in the above or other stuff ?

Yes I have "done stocks" all my life from teenager onwards. Its a very big subject to talk about and not something to do unless you are willing to put both time and effort into it. You really need to have an understanding of business, business strategy, financial accounts, some economics. Dabble isnt a good idea unless you put aside some money and are willing to lose it as a learning exercise.

Gold? Silver? Gold is a little bit like crypto in that its value fluctuates widely and it has little real use other than jewelry. I bought some gold coins back in the 70s when the price was £20 - £30 an ounce and its now £1200. Much the same as house prices in that time period so nothing to write home to mum about.

Dabble = gamble. I always beat the market but it takes time and effort and interest to do so. Not dabbling.

Before you all rush to SJP with a bag full of readies bear in mind that they are a restricted advice company and as such can only advise clients on their own branded products.
Be very aware of their high advisory fees, entry charges and transaction costs.
Oh and and read the reviews - very telling.

Just over a year ago, HMRC kindly agreed to let me keep hold of VAT payments due, for the time being. I bought Premium Bonds with it, and have had a good return with wins in every month save two. They've now extended the loan, with good repayment terms, so I'll see how the next 10 months does on top. cheers

put a bit of my "dabble money" into a couple of casks of whisky! If they don't perform financially, (returns in recent years have been outstanding), can get hundreds of bottles of single malt from each cask in a few years time, which will definitely provide a good return in consumption pleasure!! cheers
