High idle may also be simply caused by a sticking throttle cable. When I first bought my car (used) I had that issue which was down to general grubbiness in the pedal box area. Sorted with a good clean and lubrication of the throttle and cable assembly.

That was happening on my 2012 M3W ( original Fuel Pump) I was pointed towards the fact that fuel delivery may not be as it should be and the fuel pump was giving a lower pressure. I fitted a Walbro pump and the light has never come on again. I suggest a pressure check at least to see if you have the same problem, Ian

The "Adaptive Max Limit" fault code is usually as a result of low fuel pressure, particularly as it is both front and rear cylinders, the fuel pressure is a common thing for both. You say you have replaced the fuel pump recently, what type of pump did you replace it with? If it was another standard one it could easily be on the way out from new. I would recommend a Walbro GSS 342, there are full instructions and part numbers on the MTWC website, free access. I would check the pressure at the injector test point, it should be 58 psi. The standard locked ECU should manage to adjust for drilled out baffles in the exhaust, although it will put it nearer to the adaptive limits. You could try clearing the adaptive maps and fault codes in the ECU with ProTune 2 and letting it adjust again?

Hi again,
I have changed the intake seals because I found they were rather worn and leaking badly. This has rectified the hunting idle and is now running sweet.
Took it for a blast and the car is running really well. No coughs or splutters right up to the cars limits
The engine light however is still coming on. The P0170 and P0173 appear as soon as the ignition is switched on without the engine running. I clear the fault but then come on again within a few seconds
I'm guessing it rules out any engine running issues? Could this be a fuel pressure issue do you think?

If you check the pressure at the test point on the RH injector (58 psi) that will answer your question. Did you try clearing the adaptive maps as well?

There is a memory in the ECU so faults can continue to trigger the engine light for about 10 starts after the fault clears.
I'm not sure if manually clearing the P faults resets this memory or not.

Does your m3w have stage 2 cams? Both those codes are fuel air ratio management.

Not carried a pressure test before so is it just a case off popping a tube on the nipple and losening it I'll get a guage from somewhere if that is the case?

I had the same problem after replacing fuel pump, the fault codes coming back on after resetting when I reset the adaptive map at the same time as the fault codes the light stayed off. Original problem was low fuel pressure due to failing fuel pump.
