I think Land Rover doors is another item targeted. It was a short while back but not sure if it persists.
The precious metals for scrap value is the reason for cat theft.
Years ago in the steelworks we used platinum/platinum-rhodium thermocouples to measure the molten steel temperature. Quite small lengths of wire in the tip of the one-shot disposable sleeve. The boys would collect the tips, strip the wire out and pre Christmas sell it. Enough for a few drinks! The instrument department had a stock of such wire and we weighed it quarterly on accurate scales. It had ID marks along it’s length (Hall mark type) for security ID.
People working in the scrap areas were also paid a “bounty” for removing brass, bronze etc they removed from the steel scrap. They would often sell it outside as they got a better price. It was looked on as a perk and a blind eye turned unless it was seen to be over organised.
I have spanners and nails that we salvaged from scrap. Simply asked for a permit to take them out. It was amazing what came in with the scrap sometimes.

It's a huge problem in Essex at the moment as is the theft of Range Rovers/ Disco's. Theft of Fiat Arbarths is also a problem. Chop shop activity is down since Xmas due mainly to certain eastern europeans going home for the holiday and being unable to return due COVID. It's good to know the pandemic has had some useful effect englandwave
