Well I charged Bert the Border Terrier with the job of guarding the car from a rodent infestation we had but somehow the little b****rs still had the bodywork away. It's a mystery to me how they managed it !

This is Barnaby. He lived to very nearly 30. This picture was taken on the beach at Holme Next the Sea in 2013 when he was 29.



Peter J - with luck, Merlin will make a similar age.

We both still miss him. His successor has yet to prove himself worthy.

Not really a deterrent, but you can get sticky pads that do what it says on the tin! Put them round the car and the little B"**%ers will not get away - ever!!

Some lovely GGs displayed here. We had two horses in the early years - sister was the main rider.

Owen that is a great photo. Friends have Border Terriers - great little hounds.

We should congratulate ourselves! This is the sort of thread drift that only TM can achieve.... a question about mice ends up as a discussion about horses 🤣!

Add the length of pregnancy of mice to that of a horse you get a complete year.

There does seem to be a consistent expression on Cats that do not like their photo taken. That is a good example of it.

When I was in the cigar factory I was the local contact for infestation.
Our main concern was tobacco beetle as it ate tobacco. The company expert was based in Ballymena and we had many meet ups and visits. He knew his stuff!
His advice on rodents was
Prevent them getting in. Thoroughly seal up ALL gaps as they can squeeze through very small openings! They can eat through expanding foam so go for solid options.
Use baited traps NOT poison. Wherever they die they will stink. Carrion eaters can be poisoned from eating them.
Peanut butter is good for rats especially. Don’t bother with cheese! Place traps around edges not in the middle of open areas.
We used to get interesting things in bales of tobacco sometimes. Nothing live due to processing precautions. All removed.
Insects from Cuba, Phillipines, Brazil Dominican Republic, Sri Lanka etc. One dead monkey, a couple of lizards. Any contaminated tobacco was destroyed (but we had to declare it and certify destruction to Customs. Notes from ladies offering marriage.......
Never any fish though.

When we imported rubber from Malaysia we always found lizards & spiders survived the voyage
