Hi my fuel gauge drops to nearly empty, but I can only get in around £38 worth of fuel?
Any ideas.

I had one like that on a Discovery.
Once below approx 1/2 tank, it used to drop like a stone.
Do your other gauges work correctly? If not, you may find there is a poor connection to an 'earth' or common return point behind the dash panel.
If they do, then check all the connections (that are reasonably easy to get to, so: mainly behind the rear panel) are clean and make good contact.
If all else fails you may want to lift the sender unit from the tank and check its linearity.

Cheers,

Thanks I will try that! At the moment I put my trip on and do a rough calculation on a full fuel tank. But somehow do not trust it. I assuming that the +8 averages 26-28?
my 4/4 was around 38 but not to sure.

I always use the trip meter for keeping an eye on fuel level - in all my motors.
That's a reasonable average figure for the +8, if driven moderately.
My 4/4 will run anywhere from around 23 (doing Autosolos / Sprint tasters / driving tests etc.) to 39 on a long gentle potter down a motorway. Generally I get around 33 or 34.

Hope the problem is easily sorted. Start with the simple things first smile

Cheers,

About 6 gallons? I.e half full? Typically the needle goes well below the empty mark before the tank is anywhere near empty.

Check out this thread - the guage probably needs calibrating - http://www.talkmorgan.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/51365/Re_Can_I_adjust_a_VDO_fuel_gua#Post51365

Hi Graham
I went on a run today and the gauge dropped to nearly zero! And the trip was on 176 miles. On return I decided to have a fiddle, and after just moving or trying to push the cable connection in the gauge and the needle moved to around the I/4 mar.
I worked out 12 gal x26 = 312 so I should have 136 to go before I run out I might take it to 100 and refill any thoughts

Martin,

My +8 had the same problems - I suggest that you take a can of fuel with you, just in case.

Martin,

Sounds like you need to clean the electrical connections.
The quick way is just to pull off (one at a time) and refit. A little corrosion on some terminals is not unknown (and not just on Morgans!).

As Neil said, take a gallon of fuel too smile

Cheers,
