Hi all
2014 plus 4, When going over bumps or on bumpy roads I can hear a loud knock or bang. Difficult to trace but is concerning. I took the car into Oakmere and they could not find anything but did say the leaf spring on the left was a "a bit soft". Anyone experience of this and could this be causing the problem? The car has only done 5,000 miles and most of that on fairly good roads. If not the leaf spring then any idea of what it could be? It's not all the time but enough to cause concern.

Also if it is the leaf spring any idea what a replacement would cost?

The spring can hit the rear board under compression if it's soft. Hard to check but if this is the case, there will be a witness mark on top of the leaf spring.

If that is the cause you'll need to fit a pair of springs. But first if you're still on original dampers, try some new adjustables. A slightly stiffer damper might stop the knock.

But the front springs can bottom out on cornering if there's a bump in mid corner. Can you sense where the noise is coming from?

I have had tell tale marks on the board covering the axle if I have arrived at a bump in the road a bit too quickly in my car.
Might be worth a quick check of the integrity of the ubolts on the springs.

If Andy has a tool tray Richard, the diff might be punching a hole in it!

Could well be Dave, out of my three cars I haven't had the luxury of a tool tray but a very useful under bonnet tool box instead.

That's part of the problem. I really can't tell where the noise is coming from. I have had different passengers who all think different places. All I can certainly say is rear of the window screen so likely the back end somewhere.

Last year my 2018 plus4 was for service at BHM.

When I collect her after the service Bret asks me: don‘t you hear the knock? There was a problem with the spring hangers.

And: no. From my side no noice noticed.

Not sure if this helps, but my 4/4 had a knocking noise which sounded like it was coming from the rear. In the end it was these 2 bolts next to the door hinges on the passenger side that wasn’t fully tightened.

I think it’s called the scuttle roll bar ?

Try a test drive without the plastic tool try and tools, It's a bit flimsy and could even be just the jack & hammer bouncing around in it (if you don't want to drive around with the diff exposed, just pop the board back)

Following your advice I moved the tool tray to see if there was anything obvious rubbing anywhere. I could not see anything but I did notice the brake lines rub against the U-Bolts? Is this normal. Does not look overly safe?
