What are people using for a replacement rear tire these days? The last time this was asked was a while ago and the suggestions in that thread seem to be outdated. 175/65/15 is the size on the OEM Kumho Solus KH17 I just removed. I want a symmetrical tread pattern...the Kumho was not symmetrical..... Also wondering if anyone is running a Run-Flat or if they even exist in this small size?

Run flat would shake the machine dramatically. Very rough riding in my Mini Cooper and quickly changed to an all weather tire. I switched to a Blizzak ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2019/12/12/517C9845-B283-49EC-B704-D266DD2C6F94.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2019/12/02/616F4CEE-04AE-403D-8F74-742232DD318D.jpg) The are a bit soft racing but good grip in the cold and rain. Next time i might get Michelin ice-x.

There is a list of popular tyres in the Alternative Parts List in "M3W Resources" at the top of this forum. Currently many are using either Michelin Cross Climate or Bridgestone Weather Control A005. Whatever you use it is a good idea to put something like Puncture Safe or OKO in from new to prevent any rear tyre punctures.

It seems the UK has a much better selection of tires for the Morgan rear than we have in the US. Maybe because you have more small cars. The cross climate starts at 16in here for example.
I am in need of a rear tire, I would not have thought of using a winter tire. Also, what about using a lower profile tire? I find 5th gear not very useable today.

55 profile = 22.6” dia
60 profile = 23.3” dia
65 profile = 22.6” dia
Very few tires with the 60 profile. A bunch with the 55 profile but you would be lowering the rear of the car about 3/4” and changing the gear ratios dramatically, maybe even mKing first gear worthless.

I know you said you want a symmetrical tread but very few are these days and it doesn't seem to make any noticeable difference. Even the OEM Yokohama Blue Earth my car came with from new isn't symmetrical. I have used a Kumho KH27 Ecowing ESO1 that worked well and did some reasonable mileage.
I think that using a Winter tyre may be a bit extreme, not a lot of M3W's are used in ice conditions and warm weather performance can be reduced. A tyre with good wet weather performance is recommended, you really don't want to have a rear wheel aquaplane event, or puncture.

I have a Yokohama Avid Ascend GT, Grand Touring All Season tire on my M3W and am very pleased with the ride and performance.

Using your data, a 22.6" diameter is only a 3% change from a 23.3 diameter, so the effect on overall gearing would be minimal and most likely unnoticed (a 3000rpm cruise speed becomes about 3090rpm with the shorter tire).

I drive on freeways at 60-70mph and 5th gear works fine for me, i just dislike the gearing around 20-30 mph.

Anyone use the VREDESTEIN Quatrac? Tire rack has them.
The Quatrac is Vredestein's Grand Touring All-Season tire developed for the drivers of coupes, sedans and station wagons looking for good dry and wet performance combined with confident light snow traction. The Quatrac meets the industry’s severe snow service requirements and is branded with the three-peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol. The Quatrac features an all-season tread compound molded into a distinctive, directional, v-shaped pattern. Larger outboard blocks increase dry road cornering along with a connected center element helping maintain handling and steering response. The resulting large, open grooves effectively evacuate standing water for increased hydroplaning resistance and combine with two types of sipes for confident control in wet conditions. High-density siping and numerous off-angle blocks create the biting edges needed to provide light snow traction for stability in wintry weather conditions.Internal construction of the Quatrac features twin steel belts for strength and durability, along with a single ply casing and reinforcement for comfort and high-speed stability.
