Our spam tracker seems to be keeping the inbox clear so just occasional scans of it for misdirected genuine mails and then clearing out.
We get a couple of phone calls but let them hear the voicemail welcome and cut off.
I did enjoy one call a few years back when I went to make coffee whilethe talking t**t was gassing away. When he asked where I had been and told him he hubg up. No more calls.
I used to answer some with theopening I used when in the police ops room taking 101 calls
“Heddlu Dyfed-Powys Police. How can I help you?”
I followed it up with...
“Calls to this number are being diverted to us due to ongoing investigations. Can I please have your details”. Never had anyone giving details....quel surprise as Delboy might say!

I get a good number of "we understand you have recently had a traffic accident" calls which if I have time I am always pleased to answer yes.

At this point it gets transfers up the chain to someone more important, who wants to know what injuries I have suffered. I always like to see how many limbs I can say I have lost before they cotton on. I will normally start with arms and try and include legs as well, but it it is when they realise that I am driving a car without arms and legs that they start to think I may not be giving them a true picture.

I normally then get shouted at for wasting their time, the irony of which is usually lost on them.

I must give that a go.

Like many others I successfully tried the “old man” routine. Got to the part where they asked for a credit card, alas I dropped my card down the back of some drawers (another 4 minutes wasted), then asked if I could use wifes card, yes was the answer but she wouldn’t let me (another 3 mins), finally I asked if I could use ANY card. Yes came the reply, so I said how about the 7 of Diamonds!
Cannot repeat the answer but achieved just under 40 minutes . 😉

I got one to cry once.

Got a call and a foreign accent that sounded like a young woman. It went something like this.

Her - Something about my internet that sounded like a scam.
Me - What clearance do you need?
Her - no answer.
Me -This is Port Control Emergency Clearance what do you need clearance for?
Her. What?
Me - Do you have a heart being transported internationally?
Her - No.
Me - Why have you called this number?
Her - I need to tell you about your computer.
Me - This number is for port clearance it is a federal offence calling this number unless it is an emergency.
Her - I need to help you fix your internet.
Me - I don't think you have anything to clear so you have committed a federal offence, give me your name, address and phone number.
Her - What are you talking about.
Me - You have committed a federal offence, give me your name, address and phone number.
Her - what.
Me - You have committed a federal offence, give me your name, address and phone number, we are tracing your call and you will get caught, your find will be a lot less if you give me your details now.

She kept saying what and I repeated myself a few times and I started to hear her crying, she then cried out Shut up and hung up.

Sounds like an 'Ace' tactic

This one is a first for me, it came in a personal letter from a Mr Wai Tse Yu who seeks to assure me that he is a Manager at CTBC bank in Hong Kong. The long and short of it is that, working with the Shengjing Bank, he will make me $11million richer!! by contacting him on his e-mail waitseyyu@gmail.com.

If any of you are using personal email (gmail, outlook, hotmail etc) and would like something that is quite effective at stripping the SPAM out of your email and saving you the hassle then it might be worth looking at mailwasher. https://www.mailwasher.net/
