My mother's side of the family were brummies. My Grandad warned me that thinking of using the brummie screwdriver meant you were going to break whatever you used it on. He has been right quite often. That's one thing I do miss whenever I'm back visiting family in the Midlands, the total lack of industrial background noise, the hammering noise of presses and forgings, lathes turning, the sky at night red from the glow of giant furnaces etc. the silence these days is eerie compared to my youth when it was the hive of industrial activity. I don't miss the accompanying smog and industrial dirt everywhere.............its just a shadow of its former self.

This is from the website from Zoe/Kings College This week the number of daily new cases has remained stable, just below 5,000. This is as expected, given that cases in children have risen slightly off the back of schools reopening. According to Prof Tim Spector, this is a necessary impact of unlocking society and numbers are currently well under control and aren’t a cause for concern.
Good news to end the week. This is the LINK to the latest video. You have to love a high flying academic who has the Beano Book in his bookcase...

Aaaah, back to rabid EU bashing. I'm out. I am not certain I am willing to EU bash as a whole. I believe the current leaders do need a good verbal bashing for taking the twitter route to resolution instead of the proactive grown up "that's a politician" route. Any of us that want to go on holiday in Europe this year need to be comfy it is safe and this is part of it? I would also love to understand how much of it was down to them clinging on to the Sanofi (strong French Interest?) path behind the scenes. I heard the french press ran a few articles that were critical of the delay and cover up on the delivery of it. It rather suggested that SANOFI were being bullied into saying it would be ready shortly and this was promised up the chain. I’m for a more balanced view. EU citizens will be feeing that they’ve missed the boat pretty badly, and they’re exporting vaccines almost to exclusion of their own needs, which are pretty desperate. So the politicians had to try something to try to prompt others (us) to be a bit more generous. We’d all feel the same if we turned up to a supermarket to find the someone else had bagged all the toilet rolls. Especially if half of them refuse to use that sort of toilet roll. Despite the harm it would do us, I’d be in favour of diverting some of our supply to the EU. It would be a major boost to our trade prospects, and I want to go to France this year. Maybe they could have our Pfizer and we could have their AZ which isn’t being used. I’m sure the upcoming talks will decide something like that. I thought about deleting this but, not much else to do while in lockdown... I agree SFG. This is the first test of the new relationship and communication skills of the UK-EU parties and it is the usual he said-she said muppet ho-down. To be fair to the UK and Boris I am pleased it did not get dragged down by this side. I am certain that I am make this comment without a full understanding of the first jab/second jab targets etc but this is when a positive view delivering joint benefit is needed. We can jab everyone only to have a new strain pop out of a lorry driver (finally being tested!) from Spain/Italy etc tomorrow. We are in a position now to do more good for our partner nations than we have been for a long time. Our lead allows us to continue and help others like the Commonwealth, South American and African regions. The outcome of the covax decision makes the world a poorer place sadly. I expect that Hospitality will introduce a "per night/room jab tax" on the bill next year so that each stay provides a jab for the local community so clearing up the surrounding areas and making it ever better to travel with comfort. It will be creative moves like this that help the less financially secure regions I hope. The comments re breaching law and calling the national card as above it also provokes another thought in my mind. How long before it gets hijacked on the racial card as there are studies showing a number of racial types suffer more significantly than others and so should be given earlier access or raised a click in the priority list. I don't dispute this and would see the logic in it. I would actually support it. But this would also become a tinder pot in the press and lead to comments of virus-jacking the agenda no doubt. I will stop there before I pee off to many, sorry if I have touched a button, it is not my intention to offend, just consider from my perspective.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

No need to EU bash as the EU politicians are bashing themselves for everyone in the World to see.
They were slow to approve AZ, then stated it wasn't safe for some, and now complain because they haven't got enough due to their bad management and planning, whilst at the same time not using the AZ stocks they have.
I personally couldn't care less about the Euro politicians who will no doubt soon be out of office, but I do care about our friends on the continent who I'm sure we will try to help. If the shoe were on the other foot though the EU politicians would say it was our own fault for leaving the EU.
We are a long way from being out of the woods but at least the UK has light at the end of the tunnel....at the moment!

I do wonder whether the Covid vaccination card will be a backdoor into an UK ID card that has been touted by Governments for decades and resisted. Lets see how much information and personal details they try to capture on the card.
When it comes to the EU most people use that term to refer to the body politic and the bureaucrats rather than the people .
Regards
John

True, I also include the EU executive, the European Commission.

It's a shame that this site has to have so many thread drifts.
Surprised it hasn't turned to fish based quips yet!
