M M - MIATA MORGAN

Hello to all Morgan fans.
Important changes have taken place in the corporate structure since the last time I posted my projects here.
The new owner has better defined the range of models with proposals in line with the Morgan tradition, but new from a technical point of view.
Completely different is my project of combining the modernity of a well-known and widespread roadster (the Mazda mx-5) with the characteristic features of the Morgan Brand.
What do you think about it.
Ciao.

It has an Alfa Romeo look to me. Wasn't there talk a year or two ago of an Alfa/Mazda model?

There was .... shared platform, with Alfa reworking the bodywork and some handling tweeks .... not sure if the Alfa project made it to metal ..... Fiat made a Spider as a similar colaboration ......mate of mine has one .... quite a pretty little car for a modern.

Buy a Mazda and stick a Morgan badge on it.

Much cheaper.

I like the MX5 and even more so the Abarth version on the same platform, but I tried both and decided they are built only for the Japanese, at 6' and 14 & 1/2 stones it was uncomfortable just as Reg had predicted.

I too agree that the cars proposed by Mitsuoka, are aesthetically unconvincing. But then we must remember the forerunners, the English, who in the 60s, hoping to increase sales, played on "brand loyalty" and "badge engineering" (Classic & sportscar, Jan, 24, 2020 by Malcolm Mckay).
Like a Riley Elf, a Wolseley Hornet or a MG Mini, for example, aesthetically worse than the original BMC Mini, could not satisfy the fans of its historical brands, so my MM Mazda - Morgan will never give the same emotions as a 100% authentical Morgan, especially if historical.
But, if ugly, about 60.000 Riley Elf+Wolseley Hornet were sold, at higher price that the BMC Mini.
The question is: how many MM Mazda -Morgan, manufactured by Mazda to Morgan specifications, could be sold by the Mazda dealerships at a higher price than the original Miata? And with what overall results in terms of royalties for Morgan's income statement?
And if this path can be traveled, Mazda is the right partner and the MX-5 is the ideal car.
New fans of the Morgan brand could be born, probable customers in the future of a 100% original Morgan, ensuring the continuity of the Morgan Brand.

Gents please, no more hurtful comments. We’ve all had a jolly good laugh so let’s just look forward to the next project.

I was really tempted by the looks and performance but it was too cramped for me, perfect for my wife at 5'7" and 9 stones wet though.

Enjoy the test, one of our TM members has one and loves it but I can't recall his name now..

Yes, the Hornet and the Elf where based on the Classic BMC Mini. But MG-Mini - you mean the Metro? It was only a Metro, with absolut the same bodywork, named MINI, but no classic MINI (also as the Bertone MINI)

Have a look at the front of a MORGAN and the MIATA-Mog. A 4/4 is a small and filigran car, the latest Plus8, PlusFour and PlusSix are
the same theme, but more brute and muscular.

In my first answer I said: Miatas aren‘t my cup of tea. Why? Some models look like a ELAN (Lotus) and some have a lot of Corvette style.
Also copies. In my eyes copies are like cold coffee.

If you want an upgrade to something round out of the past with a lot of round curves have a try with an early 356 (Porsche) or give you first try in a gym and try a plus4plus, as an idea.

With less harsch words: I think the here around miss the „Italian Eleganza“, straight lined and focused cars.
