Hi Guys,
about to change my front tyres. At present I have Avons but wondered if its worth changing to a different brand. Any suggestions/experiences of other tyres available would be appreciated.

Blockleys are the popular choice.

+1 for Blockley's, they are a popular and well proven upgrade and the same price as the Avon's

They're available from MWS Wheel Services (who supply MMC) http://shop.mwsint.com/product_details.asp?id=119

The Coker Excelsior Comp. 400H19 from Longstone Tyres are reportedly similar to the Blockley's in cost and performance

If you want to go for more performance then people have used a number of motorcycle tyres which provide much more grip but at the expense of tyre life. See the Alternative Parts List.

Duro HF307 / HF308 Tires Are very nice for road tires with their 6 ply rating. Comfortable and lots of traction and not as stiff a ride as blockley / excelsior.

I need to give MWS a call next week too. Hopefully they will fit the Blockley's too along with a rim band to protect the inner tube(s) from spokes (I reckon my driver side wheel is suspect!). Wonder if they will change the rear too? ...

MWS will fit the Blockleys but I doubt they'll do the rear.

The spokes are off centre under the tyre bead so a rim band won't help in protecting the tube.

The Coker Excelsior Comp H line are dead ringers for the Blockleys and will last longer. I believe that the rubber compound is very modern where the Blockleys may still be using the same formula from WW2. Have gone through two pair of Avons, two pair of Blockleys and have ordered the next set of Cokers.

What's your mileage? Who cares. Is it practical? See #1. What happens when it rains? You get wet.

The Coker are a stiffer tire than the Avons.

In the three wheeler application wouldn't the motorcycle tires in front have a small contact patch than something like the Blokleys?
