Hi there.... long time....

Having just revived my 87 Plus 8, my garage is reporting that my Lucas 4 ECU fuel control unit 83986B is lacking an ignition signal.

I would very much appreciate a recommendation for a company to repair that please.

Also - having fitted a wider exhaust, though the car runs within MOT specs, I can taste fuel in my mouth. Perhaps an ECU tweak might help?

With many many thanks in advance,
Paul

Paul

Is your fuel injection "Flapper" (13CUX) or "Hotwire" (14CUX)? I think I have a fault finding manual for the latter , but not for the former.

Does Russell @ Revolutions have any contacts he can share with you ?

Maybe worth a trawl through this .

I notice there are some units for sale on fleabay but they have an "A" suffix and I have no idea how or if that is significant.

Hi Paul
Give Derek a ring at Turriff Auto Electrical, he worked with Lucas until they shut up shop. He might be able to help you out. A Google search will bring them up.

Paul, does the engine start and run? The ecu as far as I can remember gets its signal from the distributor, the ignition side (ie spark) is separate from the ecu which is only for fuelling, try taking the ecu apart and re-soldering the transistor connections they usually show cracks in the solder (dry joint). If all else fails I have a complete set of parts for the flapper from my car that I kept when i changed the lucas system for something modern and more efficient (as well as full fuel and ignition mapping) PM me.
