Spotted this morning, can any aviation experts out there explain this? I've never noticed it before. Yes, most likely a shadow. I've noticed them occasionally, and it takes a while for your brain to accept there's a thin cloud layer below the contrail!

Thanks Alistair, I'm assuming that the shadow was cast by the moon then, which must have been North of the trail? The sun would have been ESE when I took the picture.

^^^ +1 ..... contrail shadow ..... the shift is probably a parralax effect from where you're viewing it

If the sun is low on the horizon or there is a thin low level cloud base it can cause this.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.
