Some years ago, I owned a company based in Gyor in Hungary and used to fly into Vienna and sometimes I would stay in Rust next to Neusiedler See. My memory tells me that this had topography similar to your picture and of course is a famous wine growing area - so is the picture from the Burgenland area ?? Not too bad!👍 The chapel is (almost) an architectural masterpiece commemorating a visit of the Polish Pope J.P.II. to Austria in the 1980s. The chapel is located in the vineyards between Jedenspeigen and Sierndorf with a view in the direction of the border river March, which at that time was the end of the western world on the border to the communist east. The location is not Burgenland but Lower Austria while the area looks very much the same.

Looks like Witley Court?
When I was 14, I camped in the grounds and got bladdered on local home brew scrumpy. My mate destroyed the farmers toilet. At 17 went out with a girl who lived opposite.
Some real wierd dermot used to go on there before EH took hold....

THE fire, that turned a once beautiful building into a ruin.

THE fire, that turned a once beautiful building into a ruin. Sucha shame - although devastating, the building was eminently repairable - however the money wasn't there and decades of 'salvagers' stripped the building completely. The ruins featured heavily in my youth and I have a real fondness for the place. One of my best mates got married there.

In our pre married days Caroline and I used to go there, with the family dog, for some peace and quiet. The Church, which was not damaged, is a wonderful Baroque style and is still used as a Church.
Im recent years English Heritage ave done quite a bit of work to stabilise the pile, restore the fountain to full working order and improve access, but without spoiling it. Well worth a visit.
