Agree with you Howard, re the Elise as a contender. But feel the Aero series cars fit your definition better and they've got a proper boot.

I tend to fall in love with vehicles that are realy rare but will never rise.
So the Peraves Ecombile had about 80 produced over all with about 70 left driving. It is quite hard to learn but a mind blowing feeling in the end. It is known by an ageing specialits group - so there will be some on the market in the following years...
My Fiat powered +4 fourseater is much the same. There are not so many of them and the demand seems to be even lower. For me both are keepers, so I don`t mind;-)
Next thing I would go for is a SMART fortwo with tow bar in good condition... There will be pretty few of them but the prices will not show that...

I agree with all the suggestions, including those of cerealsurfer and Mkiss. Only...no matter what you favour, we are dependent on the politicians (as democratic representatives of the people) who make the rules of the game, allow things and forbid them. For this reason, I cannot make any assessment of the future value of petrol cars. If they are only allowed to stand in the hotel entrance area as decoration, their value will be reduced to less than a tenth.

I think along similar (negative?) lines to those of Rich and Heinz. I guess if Porsche manage to advance with synthetic fuels there may be some future for the ICE but it seems likely to be expensive and if so that would limit it`s usage, as for how expensive..? I leave that to your imagination.. (-: I suspect the idea of buying cars in the hope of passing value on to kids, may be thought to be hitting two stones with the one bird.. (-: In that the guilt of spending their inheritance by buying another selfish toy, is offset by seeking to use by means fair or foul, the current CGT situation in relation to cars. NOT that I know all the implications thereof..

You need a diesel lorry. They won’t be able to outlaw those in a hurry

Tend to agree with a lot of the above ..... chose the early TT as an abstract exercise ..... but with the writing on the wall for ICE cars and their infrastructure I wouldn't choose any of them as a financial investment .... if ICE for private transport doesn't get entirely banned at some future point (never underestimate either the zealotry of the environmentally righteious or the need to be seen to be 'doing something' amongst politicians) it will occupy the sort of tiny niche that steam Traction Engines and horse-drawn barges do now.
Drive them now and drive them lots !!

Tesla Roadster (ca. 2008).
The future generation will predominantly reject the old combustion engines.

The demise of the ICE may happen sooner than we think or would like. Early indication of escalating Climate change imperative as we, await announcement details on Government proposed 78% reduction in carbon emissions by 2035...whilst might be focused on aviation and shipping it is indicative of what is to come..........

In 2035, I will either be 86 or dead.
Either way, I'm not bothered enough to go electric.
The answer is a mix of public transport, and less travel Electric cars are a drop in the ocean.
