Today I have looked at my NEW HiSpec brake upgrade and would like the opinion of knowledgable mechanics I believe to be an issue. The coverage of the HiSpec upgrade regards the pads on the surface of the rotor is LESS than the coverage of the original LockHeed AP calipers AND in my opinion raises a brake safety/performance issue as part of the brake pads are not used. In fact if you view the GOMOG page here https://www.gomog.com/allmorgan/brakehistory.html#WATCHPOINT: it mentions a lip forming on the pads where disc coverage is unsatisfactory. In the case of the HiSpec conversion if we use the original AP brake caliper bracket then we have 1cm lip ie brake pad unused? This so called “upgrade” is more of a downgrade in my opinion. Pad fit is bad enough but to have to re-drill holes to get them to locate...what would an insurance company think of that! I would return them to the supplier as not fit for purpose.

Rob i think the uneven pad wear would not be good. You have effectively lost that area. I would go back to the supplier as it doesn't seem right to me

You don't need to be a knowledgable mechanic Rob to see the calipers you have been supplied don't match the stub axle/brake disc combo with regard to mounting position. Futhermore it may, or should be, an MOT failure!

Rob, just a thought . I know MMC changed the stub axles a while ago. Maybe newer ones are a better fit. John

These are my thoughts exactly, apparently these were fitted to the baby doll cars...by Morgan Factory seems rather bad to me...looks like they are going back from where they came unless there is a remarkable fix...its either different calipers or a updated mounting bracket? I will not name the supplier and will give them some time to redeem themselves....

From the days when I played with bikes and their brakes, I understand that the pad should bit on most, but not all, of the surface of the disc, about 2/3mm unused each side. The pad should never, ever, extend above the edge of the disc. Often, if upgrading calipers, it is essential to replace the disc as well, so that they can wear in together.

Rob, I know Dave W replaced the discs & I think the calipers on his Roadster but I can't find the thread. It might be worth a PM to him

Well I'm the supplier, so I'll stick my hand up I haven't replied yet because I've only just got to work.. Rob, you sent me 3 messages before 7.30 this morning, on top of messaging me at 6.30 on a Saturday morning a few weeks ago about something else. Business hours only please... There's an alternate pad shape that moves the friction material in towards the hub centre line, There's a set on the courier to you today A small point- these are not the upgrade kit used by the Baby Dolls etc, That conversion uses a larger vented disc, and is much more involved. These are a replacement caliper to replace the aged Princess cast iron caliper

I used Mulfab HiSpec replacements on my Plus8 when I spotted a damage pad retaining spring lug. The only issue was that HiSpec had drilled the mounting holes undersized! All the Mulfab stock turned out to be the same. After resizing the holes they were ok. No pad fit issues and brakes are performing well. The buggeration part of the job was getting the old discs off the hubs. Lots of Plusgas, soaking, persuading needed. New discs, callipers, braided hoses working well. to SimonH for sorting out this pad issue. Luckily, Rob, you have enough knowledge to spot that there was a problem.
