From Tim G's original post "Coming up on Yesterday Tuesdays at 20:00 Secrets of the Transport Museum programme about Brooklands" Freeview 26 for us. I watched the episode 2 repeat last night on UKTV catch up. UKTV Link to series.

Not seen a single "secret" yet though Having worked in engineering and having a modicum of common sense I find it somewhat pedestrian Channel 5 like to prefix their "factual" programmes with Secret. Not very secret when they were willing to let the TV cameras in.

I remember my first visit there with Ray. Morgan day just after the Brooklands cars were made. One of the stewards asked us about them as one owner claimed free entry as part of owning one! We talked him through it. He thanked us and took us on a private tour. Opened locked doors in a few places. Under the hyperbaric chamber was a real eye opener! The whole chamber / big!) was supported on wooden stands of loose crossed pieces. There were models of experimental craft there too. Barnes-Wallis was based there doing high altitude testing with the models. We did the trip in a day with a couple of runs up the test hill and back round on the banking plus a parade lap session on MB World track. Boring and slow! Second visit was organised by the Surrey branch of Taffmog ( two members only) and we added on the Concorde experience, chatting to a guide who was a stewardess on the actual flights. Some great anecdotes. It is a place to visit more than once.

Caused me to discover uktvplay as well for catch up. Very useful as there is often interesting content missed on the several freeview channels it covers.

Pedestrian is a good description! This week we got second-by-second coverage of pushing of a Jordan F1 car from one shed to another! And as for the two blokes removing the sidelight from a Hillman wing using a hacksaw blade as a screwdriver, for a moment I thought I'd accidentally switched over to Chucklevision. But I am grateful for any programme like this and still look forward to it each week. Like RIchardV6, I love the glimpses of the exhibits.

Ditto but it was scary how those guys were allowed to work unsupervised on that Hillman.

What’s worrying is that the two seniors working on the Hillman Aero were classed as retired master craftsmen, and as Ian states using a hacksaw blade as a screwdriver made me cringe.

Frustratingly, when the Jordan went into the storage shed you could just catch a glimpse of something else in there, I think it may have been the Bentley 4-litre saloon. I wish the cameras had gone in further and shown us a few genuine "secrets" of the museum.
I hate to be critical because I do truly enjoy the programme, but at times it's like watching paint dry.
