Over the weekend I fitted the GDI Club sport exhaust to my +4, the full system with the twin tail pipe. A 40mile test drive showed that the car now suffers from exhaust fumes in the cabin, car running with the hood down and side screens on. A major difference in the pipe is that the outlets are some 25 mm higher, than the previous single outlet pipe, and thus quite near to the rear of the wing. I then refitted the old single outlet tail pipe and the problem has gone away.
I would be interested to know if any others have found this issue with the twin outlet pipe and what was your fix?
Cheers

Is the older one longer as well, maybe avoiding the rear upstream?

No it's not any longer, but the fact that it's lower might well mean it's out of the upstream.

You can buy tailpiece trims on ebay which have a curved end throwing the exhaust downwards and/or outwards. They just fix on with a couple of clamps.
I had to do this with my mg, it did solve the problem. Cost of part £8. Actually, I think I bought from Amazon.

Did the sports exhaust include a Sports catalytic converter?
I discovered that the original Sports cats fitted to my old 3.7 Roadster were never type approved, so it's no wonder that I could smell exhaust fumes in the car.
Fitting side exit exhausts cured the smell, but the emissions were still very iffy - so much so that I got rid of the car.

Thanks for the tip, something like that was next on my list to do.

It is a whole new exhaust system from MMC. As MMC sold new cars with the system fitted I would have thought so. But at the moment I just want to stop the fumes getting into the car.

A 40 mile run isn’t much to get heat in to burn off protective coatings, etc. Did you use some sort of exhaust paste on the joins? That could be the culprit until it hardens off. I would give it some time and mileage to see if it settles down.

My 4/4 (2014 model) had fumes coming in. Once the cat got hot you could no longer smell anything but still, the fumes came in, you know because of the smell until the cat kicked in.
I had side exhaust fitted about three years ago which solved the problem.

+1 for side exhausts which give better ground clearance as well smile
