The speed (and odo) sensor is on the right front hub, and the wiring for same is rather exposed and subject to damage, so that's the most likely culprit. Easy enough to fix if you find a break. If you take the wiring loose, you can re-route it a bit to get most of it protected by the lower control arm and the upright. Long cable ties will be handy for this.
A bad speed sensor will also not allow the turn signal module to operate correctly, and your turn signals will not self cancel, among other issues.

Most likely the culprit is the speed sensor on the right front hub. Mine lost its mind a number of years ago and it was going through on again off again on the speedo. Did not pay attention to the trip meter but it would affect that as well. The wiring is really exposed there and mine was eventually cut through by the small zip tie Morgan used to attach the cabling to the wishbone! I went through and soldered everything back together put on shrink to fit covers on the wires and used a version of duct tape to hold it in place with an added medium zip tie on top of everything. It is highly exposed due to wind and weather so due diligence is called for.
Still driving the damn thing...
What's your mileage? Who cares. Is it practical? See #1. What happens when it rains? You get wet.
