I have never had a problem with water in the footwells. I sealed the floor to chassis is on my 2013 car. When I got it back in 2017 after a replacement chassis there is no sign of floor sealant but it does not leak. I endorse the suggestion to seal the rear bulkhead to cut down on dust & noise.

For wet weather surprises, we have always treated ours the same way as a boat - cockpit self bailers (holes) need to be functional and sailing jackets available in the boot to keep out wind and rain!

LOL I have had to deal with "the lake" as well! Mrs. RCMATT was in her plus 8 with the top up.

Drove in the rain recently... it was extremely wet and caused a lot of road dirt and water to come up and around the seats, flooring and even into the footwells. Currently have the interior stripped and am deep cleaning. Also have purchased sound deadening sheets and tape with the dual goal of reducing sound / vibration as well as keeping water / debris out!

I live in a dirt track environment so my Moggies get very dusty just driving to the main roads, one trick I have done with the M3W is to use tubular insulating foam for 1/2 inch water pipes. It's very bendable and squishy getting right into crevices and other inaccessible areas sealing the gaps behind the seats and at the sides. The gap at the rear of the plastic boot tray where the leather strap is allows a huge amount of dust and dirt into the boot tray area, sealing that gap with tubular insulating foam makes a huge difference.

"...even into the footwells."
No surprise as there is NO weather sealing in the forward trans tunnel area-any water that blows past the engine into the gearbox area can end up coming in below the dash. Also, there is no sealing at the lower front of the body into the footwell area. So don't bother with one of those cute steering column seals.
Really absurd that they didn't even try to seal the front of the car. A wet head/torso in the rain is a given in a topless car, but I find wet socks rather irksome.
