Thank you for your support.. and all the useful contacts. I have tried to compare the boards but haven't a clue about what numbers or letters are significant, so I will have to get some help with that. They look very similar but your previous posts suggests I should be cautious. I have a few contacts here in Sweden and I'll have to wait and see what they can come up with. In the meantime I will actually try to talk to Power Torque and see if they can give me a hint of where to go next. Mark Baldwin sounds interesting too... Not yet Bob, but I will speak to (with?) them and to 'ECU Decoding' next week now that I have some more coherent and relevant information to share with them. I appreciate all the help I can get, thanks..

Those builds do look very similar  I don't think anybody has done this before here on TM with a Zetec. Watching with interest....

On a different note but a similar vein, I wanted to play with my Zetec and I felt I was going to be restricted by the ability to tune the ECU mapping so I stripped all the Morgan / Ford wiring out and put in an OMEX stand alone ECU.
Not completely straightforward but it does allow you to adjust the mapping very easily as you modify the engine or in my car swap the engine altogether.
Another benefit is that you can get rid of the immobiliser completely which is not required by UK insurers on a Morgan provided it's garaged overnight when at home.
Not suggesting it would be your first choice but it is very satisfying when you do get it right.

Bob, I did a similar thing with my 85 +8inj. I removed the lucus ecu, coil, distributor injectors etc. and fitted a Canems mappable system that controls the fuel and ignition. Future proof and reliable.

Actually Bob... I've had half-an-eye on the Omex for quite a long time. Everybody seems to be very happy once the job is done. I guess it's not something you do over a weekend... though I have taken out and repaired a complete ECU loom from a Citroën BX GTi 16V once. Given the right circumstances... and the time... and the place... Worth considering if the current project grows out of proportion. Thanks for reminding me  ... I guess it's a bit tricky to do all the wiring from scratch...

Searched the net earlier in the week and strangely enough I found a used Escort 1.8 Zetec EEC IV ECU Just a wild thought…. Whilst rummaging around in a copy of Autodata today I took a quick look at a late 1.8 Escort 60 pin ecu. Is there any chance that you might have say, taken out the small 3 amp fuse suppling pin.1 of the ecu? I like wild ideas  I have checked but couldn't find any 3 amp fuse. Where is it supposed to be located if not among all the other fuses. Are there fuses somewhere else...

On a Duratec and going by memory I think it’s the second fuse (LH side) in the 8 slot fuse holder screwed to the bulk head (engine side). And mine is a 20 amp fuse! It’s the fuse that also keeps the ecu awake to retain the memory when the ignition is off and powers the immobiliser led.
