I was always fascinated watching the harvesters at work when driving across Nebraska and Oklahoma, massive machines with up to 10 in line. I measured the length of one field driving alongside it at a very flat 5miles, which is why it is tornado country. The other entertaining event is the harvester racing that they have, those machines go faster than 40mph. Oh and the freight trains that crossed the area I measured the length of one of those at close to 3 miles long.

He farms about 45,000 acres in Saskatchewan and he mentioned he was in a 1500 acre field with a 3 mile bout in one of his videos, didn't say if it was his biggest field. Yes my bad I missed a 0 which is a big one on that scale.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

PaulF....the horsebox I mentioned was not a trailer being towed. It was an old box van type and was not getting up to any speed, even on straights. The road had limited straights for overtaking anyway and oncoming traffic combined with frustrated drivers caused some near misses. It was the driver’s attitude and inconsiderate behaviour in not pulling off the road that was the problem. She was quite indignant when spoken to so a simple chat was leapfrogged to a FPN. She was held at the lay by until traffic cleared but denied causing any problem. She drove out of the area but we guessed she would not change her driving. There's no excuse. And if she had a nervous horse that traveled badly, all she had to do was to pull over when she saw a queue building behind her. After all, revving engines and dodgy overtakes will unsettle her horse. In the days when we ran a lorry for the horses, our old Bedford TL would cruise at 50 - which should be ample to prevent a major build up of traffic. The Renault Midliner we had next would easily exceed its speed limit if you were not careful.

I have to ask what is the average time delay for the whole journey caused by being behind the tractors 3-5 minutes? We have become an impatient society, I used to always have tractors on the roads around Hereford and was probably delayed no more than a few minutes for the whole journey.

I'm hardly ever held up by tractors in front of me these days ... as already mentioned they are no longer slow. It's tractors coming towards me that are the big problem as they are also now very large and I spend a lot of time driving up banks to avoid them.

I belive a JCB Fastrac will do 50mph, Guy Martin got one up to 135mph. Its not only tractors that cause tailbacks. I was stuck behind two Mamils on expensive looking bikes. At front of the following queue was a tractor. The cyclists just carried on abreast regardless of the growing queue. There was a long lay-by they could have slowed & ridden into but no. We all followed them several miles.
Aberdeenshire tractor drivers do seem more considerate than some, maybe because we are used to single track roads with passing places.
