A few years ago, a farmer friend had his combine go up in smoke mid harvest, in August. It happens occasionally. In fact I may have posted the story here because the day before we were riding it.

Anyway the only suitable John Deere combine to replace it, was in Helston (or thereabouts). So the delivery driver had to drive that combine from Helston to Salisbury in the peak holiday season. Think what fun that would have been.

On most occasions, I lay the blame with the vehicle behind the tractor. On a main road it should be no problem to overtake but more often than not, the feckless fool following wastes every opportunity to pass. One more idiot catches them both up and it’s game over for everyone else, you look like a psycho if you take the lot in one move.

True they are normally way too close to the tractor & can't therefore see the opportunities.

Speaking to our local tyre guy the other day after he attended a large tractor with flat rear. This one had such a top speed that tyres with speed rating over 40mph were required, even though as I understand, there is a 30 mph speed limit for them on our roads.

I cannot imagine the cost of that line up at 5 machines like that. One field 160 acres.

We live near the Jody Scheckter farm and the A303/34. I can guarantee they do more than 40! Some are rolling up the A34 at a good 40-50 and others have been pushing me to go up the local lanes at more than 40. Maybe he just had his tuned by Ken Tyrell RIP as there are six wheelers. I guess they have different classes, GT1 GT2 GT3 etc.

PaulF....the horsebox I mentioned was not a trailer being towed. It was an old box van type and was not getting up to any speed, even on straights. The road had limited straights for overtaking anyway and oncoming traffic combined with frustrated drivers caused some near misses. It was the driver’s attitude and inconsiderate behaviour in not pulling off the road that was the problem. She was quite indignant when spoken to so a simple chat was leapfrogged to a FPN. She was held at the lay by until traffic cleared but denied causing any problem. She drove out of the area but we guessed she would not change her driving.

He farms about 45,000 acres in Saskatchewan and he mentioned he was in a 1500 acre field with a 3 mile bout in one of his videos, didn't say if it was his biggest field.
