ETA: whatever mine is I would like to see how an increase in caster angle improves the weak self centering action, not helped by low gearing on my car. With power assistance steering is over light anyway. Richard, I know from experience that the rack adjustment is very sensitive and will affect the self-centering. Maybe something to consider.

Jon, did you mean 3/4 negative camber rather than castor ?
Well spotted, yes camber, I think castor was pretty equal both sides at 5deg so was left alone

I find the rack used on two previous Mogs (Jack Knight) self centred much better, had less turns lock to lock and give a tighter turning circle The current 3.7 is way too slow, despite being PA, and has very little self centering feel

Thanks Rog although my car has the symptoms I previously described from new and they haven't changed in 15,000 + miles. Interesting that Jon describes the same above. Seems a higher geared rack would improve matters two fold, by reducing steering input whilst increasing self centering action. The standard electric assistance would comfortably keep steering effort under control at parking speeds.

Rog, I couldn't describe it better - exactly the same effect and feeling at my 2009 +4. I am definitely pleased with the steering damper! Peter Just out of curiosity I put a damper on a few weeks back with the goal of reducing the feedback through the wheel. Thought if I didn’t like it I could always stick it in the for sale section  I had no shimmy or wobble. The front end was well behaved with its SSL mod and almost ‘normal car’ like. But the roads are so bad these days driving has become more like off-roading. If the roads were perfect I don’t think I would have bothered. Pleased to say driving is a little more relaxed now with some of that unwanted energy gone. I don’t have to grip the wheel so tight in anticipation of the next surprise. Can’t say I noticed much difference at slow speed iether and there is still enough feel for me. I did exactly the same with my steering damper, although it was recommended by somebody who knows his stuff.
Like a Panhard rod, a steering damper has a much greater effect than it should.........

I have to admit that I turn off my power steering some days when I'm in the mood for a proper feeling Mog

John, Some of the mid production 3.7's came with a bought in PAS motor that was speed sensitive & could even be fine tuned, yours may have that hence you would be fairly happy with the feel as the assistance reduces with speed MMC then binned that supplier and changed to a fixed motor, I have tweaked the feeds so that I can switch off the circuit that triggers it, not the main feed as that's 30amp, nice neat illuminated switch on the dash undertray so it can be selected 'on the fly' if you're parking
