Hi, there is a button in a rubber case on the left upper edge of my bulkhead by the wiper motor in the engine space. I can't upload a picture of it, but I want to know what it is before I press it. Thanks

Sound like the inertia cutout reset switch.
If you have an accident or hit a massive pothole etc it will cut out the engine and fuel pump to prevent a fire.
You have to press the button to reset if it goes off when it shouldn't have done.
Can't be sure without photo but that's what it sounds like

It is an inertia cut off switch for the fuel supply. Switch

Sometimes can trigger when you hit a very big pothole or bump ( cuts off fuel in accident/collision situations) - resets by pushing on the top.

If you ever have a need to run up oil pressure without firing the engine, it can be a simple way to do so if you give it a smart tap with something to trigger the mechanism, then just push the button down to start as normal. Also a simple way to test it works!
