Your OP of a 'cracked outer' was somewhat of an understatement methinks!! 😁

Well Keith, it was just cracked at the last service, appears the grease and tape method didn't work for meπŸ˜‚

Miklos, that's a good tip. I drew a pencil line around the tunnel before removal, this helps with initial placement, then ensure you find and use the original woodscrew holes. I also marked where the trim hold pins were located to make refitting easier. Put in the woodscrews first as the threaded posts have a tendency not to pull the aluminium tunnel down onto the ply.

Sometime before my ownership, the parking brake cable was replaced on my 4/4.
The new cable is cable tied to the underside of the floorpan, so making future replacement a lot simpler.

I would say that's clever but I'd still have had to take the gearbox tunnel off to gain access to the nuts that fix to the chassis bracket. The clevis pin is easily accessible from the underside but not the cable fixing. I suspect that they might have cut a hatch in the tunnel as well for this? It did cross my mind but I thought I'd keep it original πŸ™‚

I think that mine may have snapped today, I'll have better look tomorrow, the job looks well beyond my capability. A trip to BHM is probably in my future.

Check also the rer suspension hangers on the rear wheels. On my S1 that had broken & the axle movement did for the cable I think.

Thank you so much for adding these pictures - about to try this for the first time myself. I'm confident to admit I don't know what I'm doing, but these pictures immensely !

Looking forward to that moment - my new cable arrived today so I'm going to try and tackle it tomorrow.

As I 'think' I understand it from the Morgan Rebuild Project i need to cut off the end of the ferrule in order to feed it through the support bracket and solder it back on once that's completed.

Then 'just' unscrew the current yoke and replace it with the new one which came with the new cable. From pictures (or wishful thinking) it seems that it's just a simple screw holding on the yoke - mine is too covered in rat fur and other debris for me to be certain - haven't quite managed to life the cover off entirely yet.

I purchased the cable with a cable clamp from Morgan Spares of New England and, if I'm correct, I screw this cable clamp on in place of the ferrule to avoid the need for soldering . Does that sound as if I have a good grasp of the process - I'm entirely new to car maintenance/repairs so I'm always assuming I'm way off the mark crazy2

Edit

I think I found confirmation on the Morgan Spare of New England site

The replacement cable from Techniques is a much better fit than the original with a much straighter entry into the hub and it appears to have way better outer sheath and protection sleeves.

Started at 9.30, an hour break for lunch and finished at 4.30, that included changing both brake cylinders as well. The gadget for inserting the clips into the rear of the cylinder is a godsend. It's not a difficult job as calypso red said, a lot of the time is spent removing and replacing the interior trim. I also took the opportunity to grease the propshaft while I had the tunnel off.

Here's some pics that might help someone else.

Back tomorrow to change offside caliper as one of the bleed nipples took some thread out on removal, not leaking but I'd rather have it replaced. A big thank you to Michele and Cain at Wolf performance for the excellent service. As usual I have no connection to the aforementioned companies and the value of your investments may go down as well as up.😜

Well done Gordon. I suffered the same fate and simply took it to BHM. Mine is a 4 seater and I had visions of all the seats out etc. In fact BHM were able to thread the new cable through with a lot of fiddling and hook it up. I'm hoping this new one will see me out. they also serviced the brake cylinders while they were there.
