Getting old is a bugger, but it's a heck of a lot better than the alternative...

For me it's the knees, so I now keep a small camping stool in the garage to help working at wheel level much easier to get up again. Also when the wheels have to come off it's straight up on stands, so only two goes with the jack.

I am 57 with an IQ of 34, does that help?

It's not getting down under a car (particularly with the 90), but getting back up again is the hardest part.
I resemble the knee problem mentioned, lack of cartilage and damaged ACL in one knee make life even harder.

(Alistair, are you sure you have those figures the correct way around?? grin2 )

I know everyone is different and what works for one does not necessarily work for another but here goes. At 66 years of age and as a result of my military service with major knee surgery I have bad knees, hips and lower back, my knees became particularly painful and knee replacement was the recommended cure. Not wishing to do that just yet I looked into stress free exercises for the knees, hips and back i.e. not using weights or running. The exercises take 10 minutes a day and involve no equipment just a chair and the step of a stair. After the first two weeks of doing the exercises my knee pain lessened to the extent I could sleep at night without taking painkillers, now 3 months in I am pain free and able to do the jobs you all describe without feeling the bad effects. It all comes down to muscle strength to support the joints which deteriorates with age and leads to restricted mobility which leads to more muscle deterioration. I would strongly recommend doing muscle strengthening and stretching exercises nothing strenuous.

My knees are still fine (touch wood) but 'Er Indoors had osteoarthritis in her right knee that got so bad she couldn't walk more than 50 yards or so. The good old NHS stepped up and gave her a new knee about 10 weeks ago and she's now skipping around like a spring chicken, going for walks and long-distance open-water swimming with no problems at all. The trick apparently is to grit your teeth and do the (non-trivial) physiotherapy exercises religiously for the first couple of weeks to ensure you get the mobility back into the knee early on.

Had a full knee replacement 2years ago, worked out ok about 95% good we'll worth the short time pain and work to get mobility back, the other knee starting to play up, so dose it up with termeric ,seems to help.time will tell.
