There was a time I could spend all Sunday under the car until after six.

There was a time I could work full time, come home, grab some tea and stay in the garage until eleven or later.

There was a time when changing an exhaust on the drive after work, in the dark, and frost, with only an inspection lamp to warm the cold concrete was acceptable.

Now I start after ten and by two I'm done. Consecutive days of that are no more.

I get a bit achy sometimes, but I don't mind after a good workout.

I could easily join in this thread as I found myself nodding in agreement as I read through the list of complaints, however, I have had the good fortune to have had older acquaintances than I who seem to have a different mindset. I may have mentioned one who took to building steam engines to power his circa 25' foot boat, not only that but created a circular boiler for it too, he bent the tubes round a Ford Transit wheel mounted firmly to the deck in his back garden... Another in his mid to late 70`s who keeps his Nicholson ketch in tip top order, other than by cheque book.. and yet another who bought a LARGE wooden hull fishing boat and is setting about converting it to suit his ideals .... While it seems I like you make excuses for doing less and less with the passage of time, there are those out there who are just determined to keep on keeping on ...Power to their elbow..

I used to hate the garden as it seems to be mocking me and growing in all the wrong places. now I REALLY hate the garden. I used to do Saturday and Sunday, finishing early on sunday for a nice roast. Now if I do the whole Saturday I feel a bit like the roast on Sunday. Might get a concrete mixer for christmas.

I have grown to love gardening over the years, but with a couple of acres to maintain one still has to make strategic decisions about what to spend one's time on. Fortunately there's no need to resort to concrete (or even worse, Astroturf). Simply declare your garden a 'Wildlife friendly re-wilding zone' and leave it to look after itself. You can also claim a bit of carbon offset for the car!

Onwards and upwards, at least summer seems to be knocking at the door...

I restarted playing golf a month ago. 9 holes at first to get the muscles active. Dreading the next 18 hole round. The walking is ok as I am out every day anyway but it is the muscles used during swinging the club that ache. Lack of use. Same with gardening. Little used muscle groups suddenly crying out in pain.
I’ve had inflammation of the Achilles tendon in one leg that comes and goes. That knee aches a bit too.
I need to up my mobility exercising/ stretching.

It`s not our fault It is a result of metrication. 1 metre is just over 3x longer than a foot - so the ground is much further away and a kilo is 2.2lbs so gravity is 2.2 times more due to the heavier weight.
I`m not a scientist, but this seems logical to me.

The fact we are all getting older & a little more imobile is something we have to accept, but believe me, make the most of what you have, when you can, particularly when it comes to enjoying our Mogs! At 72, thinking I was reasonably fit & active & enjoying retirement, having experinced what I thought was indegestion that I couldn't shakeoff using all the normal remedies available from our local chemist, a teephone consultation with the local surgery has resulted in an Endescopy, CAT, PET & MRI scans, followed by a Laparascopy to confirm Oesphegal cancer; all this in about within the last 8 weeks! Chemo & surgery to come. So chaps, make the most of life while you can, accept a few aches & pains as a result of advancing 'old age' , it could be worse, as i'm sure others on TM can confirm!
