Another mystery looms, why is my passenger seat covered in black spots?
They look like wax oil or dirty engine oil and are spread over the seat base and trans tunnel. They can be easily wiped away with a cloth and don't smell of anything. They look to be falling vertically down as there are no 'skid marks' from being sprayed. Theres no sign of anything leaking under the dash or through the bulkhead. The engine oil is clean and up to level. There is no freshly applied wax oil, I don't have remote oilers and nothing I can see spraying from the wheel arch area.
The car is parked under a clean ladder and nothing else, there are no sing of anything dripping from the garage roof.
It's a mystery.

Have you applied tyre paint or similar ? this can fling off the tyres and get into the interior, even when you allow the paint to dry for 24 hours.

Is it coming via the heater box?

No paint or coating of any kind since last year. The heater matrix looks fine, the air vents are all clear, clean and dry. The under dash vents are lower than the seat base so I don’t see how anything expelled could only und up on the top of the seat base.
Thanks for the replies chaps

Could it be spider poo. That leaves similar marks, a bit like ink spots. Note, if so, be a little careful to wash hands after cleaning up, as it can be toxic due to spiders eating disease carrying flies. A home deterrent is to spray their territory with white vinegar.

Deejay, thats a very interesting idea. some of the spots are around 3mm in diameter so is that within poo range? Must be a big spider!
I'll have a good hoover out later in case

My experience of spider poo on paintwork is that it's hard, almost like enamel, but easy to remove, and rarely more than 2mm.
Either black, sometimes with a white speck, or white, with a black spec.
I used to think this was an urban myth, but it's a fact of garage storage.

update...
car is garaged with the roof off, always.
Managed a 3 hour drive today with a white cloth over the passenger seat without any black spots occurring. I've now left it with the cloth on the seat overnight now.
I have proved one thing however; on the warmest day of the year so far my car doesn't over heat crawling for 45minutes to get through the holiday Llangollen traffic. 1 mile in 45 minutes!
