I believe the weight of the BMW R18 drivetrain is @ 240# . Does anyone know the weight of the present drivetrain- engine, clutch, compensator, transmission and bevel box? I doubt it would be less than 240#. .

Have been told by two different people at MMC that it will be petrol power but obviously no more than that.

My money's on a modern MINI 3 cylinder engine...perhaps Or even a 2 cylinder version of that? But yes, I agree an inline engine under a bonnet as used on the original Morgan F4.

Is it possible that MMC copies Pete Larsen again and goes for a mid engine design?

Only my humble opinion, but wasn't the whole idea of using a bike engine enabling a nod to the original concept ? As for phasing out of fossil fuels in blah blah years--------------------------DREAM ON
So i reckon Mr Morgan, forget electric and stick a big three Cylinder Triumph Rocket engine in it----------Job Done

Is it possible that MMC copies Pete Larsen again and goes for a mid engine design? You mean ripped off Pete’s new design, but from what I have seen Petes would be manufactured to a much higher standard.

Yes but Pete's won't be a production vehicle and have to achieve full Type Approval for sale and therefore make money...after all that's the whole point isn't it?

I think if Morgan goes ahead with an in inclosed car engine the M3W will loose a lot of its appeal. Their 4 series has this covered. The Vanderhall has this covered. The M3W ‘s appeal is a naked motorcycle engine with its unique sound , rumble and shake. BMW’s R18 has the complete drivetrain already engineered. Looks great, sounds great , shakes and is already partnered with Morgan. A marriage made in Heaven!

Hello everyone,
For the last couple of months I have been asking everyone I come into contact with (around MMC) about the new M3W.
This is just my current feeling, based on all the little 'bits' I've got
Ford Ecotec 1.0 3 cylinder - water cooled, turbo Fully enclosed under bonnet Wider front track - with car type tyres Rear wheel drive Rear disc brake Longer o/all than previous
The prototypes are being tested now - performing really well, much improved handling & brakes (Millbrook). Fact - I have spoken to people around this testing who confirm its all going really well.
Lets hope it comes in a little lighter than before - don't know if this will be possible with a water cooled engine?
I think a plus point is that the Ford engine is readily available, spares should be cheap and is made in UK. Should be good for circa 120hp.
Must have some sort of bevel drive - if so, lets hope it is better sorted than the current arrangement.
Hope we will hear something definitive from MMC soon.
What do you think/know?
Thanks Andrew
