Book says timing on my 1988 CVH should be +8° BTDC. I put a light on it and it is off the chart, I should estimate 30-40° advanced. The distributor is full moved to the stops clockwise, moving it toward the proper settings motor dies and will not re-start. I am aware that the TR powered cars it is possible to install the crankshaft pully incorrectly, but this looks to be keyed and fault proof.
I should add that someone before me has installed the Burton Power CVH22 cam. The cars has absolutely no guts at anything below 2500rpm, after that is screams, Just trying to make it an easy driver around town. Is there a way to tune this for a little more low-end torque?

No experience of the Cam, but could the plug leads be one position out on the dizzy cap?
Edit - just check Burton Power and they say following for the CVH22
Sports R camshaft giving up to 15bhp increase. Carburettor models only. Adjustable cam pulley is highly recommended.
Power Band: 2000-6500rpm

Thanks TBM, I saw the Burton notation, was hoping for some notes on ignition timing but I guess the basic rules still apply.
To test the dizzy theory do i just move each dizzy socket clockwise?

Yeah, I'd check that the timing marks are accurate by checking Pot 1 TDC again the relevant timing mark. I'd then be tempted to loosen off the dizzy and set it 'centrally' so that you have adjustment movement clockwise and anticlockwise. Then the rotor arm should be pointing in the direction of where the Pot 1 plug lead.should be fitted.

You say the timing should be 8deg adv, is that a static timing? If so then when testing with a strobe light and the engine running at tickover speed, you will need to disconnect the vacuum pipe to the dizzy and block the pipe to the manifold. Cheers John

The pressure caps are used to elevate the boiling point of the coolant above 100degC. 1deg either side of the usual 15psi only has a small effect. Going to 13 would slightly lower the boiling point and going to 16 slightly increase it. You need to consider the ability of the system to cope with the slightly higher pressure.

John07, Book calls for 16° BTDC for leaded fuel and 8° for unleaded. Blocked off the dizzy vacuum and set it at 10°BTDC, I will mostly use unleaded. Thanks, Bill
