I found the trip into northern Cyprus really interesting and sad at the same time. Our tour guide was one of the unfortunate families that lost their homes during the invasion. His take on it was there is no political will on any side to change the current situation.

That evening after our meal the waiter asked what we'd been doing that day, he said they also had to flee their home. He was invited back by the Turkish family to see it a number of years later, he went but his parents couldn't stomach it, the house was just as they left it, their family pictures were still on display. I found that really strange, sad and moving.
