Whoopie - more panic buying! That's gonna make for a rough bottom if it is. Aye, a splinter in your finger is bad enough.

Anyone considering a project involving sheet material (plywood,MDF, chipboard etc) should maybe buy it now. Price increases of 75% on the horizon I heard today Funnily enough I bought half a dozen 8x4s (9,12 & 18mm) a few weeks back. Our local Builder's Merchant gave me a heads up that shortages were coming. I had to wait a week for one of the 18mm sheets back then. Apparently it's really bad now.

I feel sorry for our local self employed builders that are really struggling for supplies and cannot afford to forward bulk buy in the aftermath of Covid.

Already happened over here for the last 3 months or so with the dropping of restrictions, average cost of new construction has gone up 15-20% this along with energy costs saw inflation jump 5% last month.

I feel sorry for our local self employed builders that are really struggling for supplies and cannot afford to forward bulk buy in the aftermath of Covid. +1 It was bad enough a few weeks ago. We partially re-deployed the refund from our 40th Anniversary holiday for a new patio and a new fence. The chaps that did the work had a real struggle. One merchant rationed them to 10 bags of cement a day (just enough for them on our job). Another increased cement from £4 to £5 a bag overnight. Then they had to wait a week extra for the fence panels (having ordered them just as they started our project. They completed the whole project and then honoured the price quoted in March. Their margins must be suffering. Needless to say, when we got the final bill (exactly the same as the quote) we paid instantly.
