Now I am curious to know what they are used for, anybody out there who recognises them?

I sent a message to "the saleroom.com" only to get a reply that they were just a portal to allow the auction houses to put stuff on line. They suggested asking a question of the auctioneers via the "ask a question" button. Flints are a pretty large auction outfit - deal in a lot of photographic kit as just one small part of their business.

Now I am curious to know what they are used for, anybody out there who recognises them? I got the impression they were a bit like a precursor to the swiss army knife/multitool - lots of different tools (including a corkscrew) that could be fitted into the same handle. They made several different styles and sets.
