Replacing the floor boards _MOG414

April 2020, saw our first partial lockdown so I decided to change the floorboards of MOG414_ Ms Marple.
After stripping off all carpeting and floorboards removed.
Chassis frame was stripped bare, rust inhibited, then primed with Hammerite Rust Beater and finished with 2 coats of black hammered paint - all applied with a fine mohair roller.
Marine grade 3/8"mahogony plywood was fitted and coated from top and bottom with West Systems clear epoxy. Bottom external faces were sprayed with black stone chip protection before installation. Border of ply and chassis flanges were covered with flashing tape. All hardware for re-installation was changed to stainless steel. I cut round washers from the extra flashing and inserted them between s/s washer and external chassis flanges. Result is that no water can get in between floorboards and chassis.
Some months before I had done a test on samples of the plywood I used: 30 days immersed in water. Took them out, dried them. No delamination and once dry all came back to the original 3/8" thickness.

Gearbox and drive shaft covers were also treated and repainted before installation.

Great attention to detail as usual Reno👍
Is that a child seat you have installed in the parcel shelf? Looks like another of your excellent additions.

Great job. A pity MMC didn't make floors like this.

That looks so good, I bet it would float!
I wouldn’t have thought you’d need to worry about water too much in Malta, isn’t it constant scorchio ?

Another well executed project, West System -the only way to first treat ply if you want it to last.

Thanks Gordon.
Actually the baby seat came with the car. I believe it was installed while the car was in Jersey pre 1999. It did influence my choice since I was going to become a grandad 2 months after I bought it from a UK chap. I have both the actual UK and Jersey plates as part of it’s history.

Thanks
It does get hot in Malta but we do have periods of heavy rain with flooded roads.

Great work, I need to replace the wooden housing of my groundwater pump. I will follow the best practice shown and use marine grade plywood and epoxy.
