At a slight tangent, one of my clients told me on Fridaynthat his Tesla is the most expensive to insure of any car he's ever had. Apparently it's a class 50, the highest one.
Something to do with the cost of parts and the delays, apparently if they are damaged it can take weeks and the insurance company has to fork out for a hire car.
Does that sound true? I've never heard it before.
He was also muttering about the cost of tyres.
Nick Insurance broker said the same but in the end only £700 odd a year, business use and parked overnight on a drive without a tracker. LV and DirectLine similar amounts when checked online. Heard that about the tyres as well but again £79-£130 depending on brand. Tesla 3 Long range. This of course could be very expensive to what he is used to? If he has an X or S then maybe.

Nick He could be a high risk driver maybe? I've just done an on-line quote for a Model 3 Long Range and the cheapest offering was £280 from LV.

Nick Yes, they are Group 49 or 50, but then what do you expect for a car with 450 bhp, or 500 bhp ( £1500 software download for the extra 50) and a 0-60 of 3.7 seconds? Yes, the slow availability of parts is also true. NFU don't want them, so £1000 a year plus £1000 excess. LV and Direct line charge the same as an equivalent ICE car. One report I read said that the "equivalent MPG is 127: not sure how that is derived. .

My Tesla and Morgan are about the same cost to insure annually - around the £500 mark each without checking.

pure guess... take an NEDC test, and the cost & consumption of electricity, mapping it to a petrol cost and extrapolating an MPG equivalent? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_European_Driving_CycleWhile it seems reasonable to attempt to help drivers understand the relative efficiency of different fuels, if my i8 gets 156.9mpg on NEDC, I'd expect a Tesla to be better, not worse! The new MPG will be kW/m or energy used per mile (km for our EU/metric friends) to compare BEV to BEV. It does not seem to be happening yet but no doubt will. I have noticed things like the Cd of Tesla is very slippery.
BEV's will be judged by how many kW they use for a given distance. If you mix this with the £/kW you get a cost per mile for the energy. It is easy to do the same for MPG and cost per L or Gal. This is quite eye opening.
However the comments re lack of brake disc/pad use due to regenerative braking, lack of service costs for oil change etc amount to a noticeable difference when you run a ballistic lorry like my ML63 for example. I just had to do discs and pads front and rear and it came to £1200. A service is £800. Tax is £600 now.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

The battery is a notional 80kwh, but Tesla state that 76.5kwh is available. If I charge from 50% to 95% I'll need 38.43kwh = £4.78 for a fill up at home overnight. At a tesla Supercharger roughly twice that. Either Way it is cheap. My C63 Light weight tank took almost £85.00 to fill up for the same full tank. Servicing was £46.00 a month and I also had to replace the rear pads and disk at £850. That is after 20,000 miles. Tax was also £600.00 Man maths or accountants maths the M3 ER AWD is good value motoring in a car that is simply a nice place to be, cheap driving and has the performance to embarrass most cars under £75k.

The time frame staggered me, nobody would have got out alive.
Having witnessed first hand the after effects of an exploded lead acid cell, going electric will be my last possible option tbh until there are proper safety measures in place.
